Lombard's Two Goals Lifts Leopards Over Greyhounds Saturday

Lafayette wins second-straight and improves to 3-1-1 in league action

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Lafayette College men's soccer team defeated Loyola Maryland, 2-1, on Saturday to win its second-straight Patriot League game and improve to 3-1-1 in league action.

The Leopards were led by junior Hale Lombard who netted both of the Maroon and White's goals. Senior Will Echeverria, junior David Mizrahi and senior Max Ippolito all recorded assists in the win.

Senior Marcos Kitromilides and Lombard both totaled a team-high three shots while senior Alex Sutton recorded a season-high five saves between the pipes.

Lafayette (7-4-1, 3-1-1 PL) was the first to find the back of the net off Lombard's first goal of the game in the 38th minute, heading the ball into the back of the net off an assist on an Echeverria throw in.

Six minutes later, after a scramble in Loyola's box, it was Lombard again who was able to get the ball over the line, off assists by both Mizrahi and Ippolito, putting the Leopards up 2-0 heading into the half.

The Leopards defense continued to hold strong until the 86th minute when a Lafayette foul in the box set up at penalty kick opportunity for Loyola (4-5-2, 2-2-0 PL). The Greyhounds were able to get the ball into the back of the net cutting the Leopards lead in half and bringing the final to 2-1.

Lombard's two goals were his second and third of the season.

Lafayette returns home on Tuesday, stepping out of Patriot League action to take on St. Joseph's at Oaks at 7 p.m. The Maroon and White will then return back to Patriot League action on Saturday as they are set for their rivalry match with crosstown rival Lehigh, in Bethlehem at 6 p.m.
