Leopards Fall to Dukes Sunday Afternoon

Booth dropped a career-high 17 points

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Lafayette College women's basketball team fell to Duquesne, 60-47, on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Leopards were led by junior Jessica Booth who totaled a career-high 17 points, along with five rebound and two assists. Sophomore Makayla Andrews recorded her second straight game with double-digit points putting up 10 points to go with five rebounds and a team-high three assists.
 
Senior Makaila Wilson recorded a team-high 13 rebounds while senior Naomi Ganpo recorded a career-high 11. Ganpo also totaled a team-leading three blocks.
 
Duquesne (1-2, 0-0 A10) opened the game with a 16-0 run before Booth eventually got Lafayette (0-2, 0-0 PL) on the board.
 
The Maroon and White clawed their way back to within, 11 bringing the score to 21-11 at the end of the first quarter.    
 
Ganpo got things started for the Leopards in the second quarter, putting in a layup to bring the score to 21-13. Junior Shanell Haskins put in a shot from beyond the arc to continue to cut away at the Dukes lead, but Duquesne held its lead and sent the game into the half up by 10.
 
Andrews drew a foul right out of the gate in the third quarter to send herself to the line for two. Both extra shots were good and pulled the Leopards back within eight. She then followed her two extra shots up with a jumper to cut the Dukes lead to six.
 
Duquesne countered with a 12-0 run before Andrews broke through the Dukes defense to bring the score to 42-26. A few minutes later, she drew a foul and made both of her extra points again to send the game into the fourth quarter with the Leopards down by 10.
 
Duquesne extended its lead in the final 10 minutes of action to earn the 60-47 victory.  
 
Lafayette opens its home slate on Thursday at 6 p.m. , welcoming Columbia before hosting Siena on Saturday at 7 p.m. following the 157th Meeting of Lafayette-Lehigh in football.
