EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette College men's soccer team closed out its 2021 season with a double overtime 2-2 draw against Army at Oaks Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Leopards were led by junior
David Mizrahi and junior
Hale Lombard who each netted a goal in the season finale. Senior
Andrew Venezia recorded the assist on both goals of the night. Mizrahi's goal was his second of the season and Lombard's was his sixth.
Senior
Alex Sutton totaled seven saves between the pipes while playing all 110:00 minutes of action.
It was Lafayette (7-7-4, 3-3-3 PL) that struck first in the 20
th minute off a goal by Mizrahi. The Maroon and White looked to add to their lead in the final minutes of the first half with a series of shots by Mizrahi, senior
Marcos Kitromilides and junior
Yiannis Panayides in Army's (7-7-2, 4-4-1 PL) box just missed the mark, ending the half with the Leopards in front 1-0.
The Leopards added to their lead in the 71
st minute off of Lombard's goal. But it was two quick goals in the 79
th minute and the 85
th minute by the Black Knights that tied-up the game at two goals each, sending the game into overtime.
Neither side could find the golden goal through both overtime periods. With the draw, Army advanced to the Patriot League Tournament while the Leopards closed out their 2021 season.
The Leopards finished the 2021 season with a 7-7-4 overall record and a 3-3-3 mark in Patriot League play.
