Leopards Cruise to 87-66 Victory to Close Out Non-Conference

Four Leopards score in double-figures, led by Fulton’s 14

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette College men's basketball team scored a season-high 87 points in its final non-conference test to defeat Gwynedd Mercy 87-66 Wednesday night in Kirby Sports Center.

"I thought we came out strong after the break for finals and played a solid first half," said head coach Fran O'Hanlon. "I was happy with our performance but we can get better heading into conference play."

Lafayette was led by freshman CJ Fulton who scored a career-high 14 points, making his first five shots, including four 3-pointers. Junior Neal Quinn posted his third double-double of the season with 13 points on 5-of-5 shooting from the field with 12 rebounds and six assists.

An 11-0 run to make it 30-14 at the 6:20 mark in the first half, including six-straight points by sophomore Kyle Jenkins, gave the Leopards the separation it needed. It was another 11-0 run to close out the first half, jump-started by back-to-back 3-pointers by senior Tyrone Perry and Fulton.

Perry got into double-figures with 13 to go along with five boards. He was joined by Jenkins with 12 points and hauled in eight rebounds.

Quinn scored the Leopards' first points of the second half and grabbed an early rebound to secure his double-double before the under-16 timeout in the second.

Twelve Leopards found their way into the scoring column as freshman Chris Rubayo made all of his shots, 2-of-2 from the field and 3-of-3 from the line for seven points and senior Jay Vaughan drained a 3-pointer.

The Maroon and White hauled in a season-high 51 rebounds as a unit and improved its streak to 28 consecutive wins over Division III opponents.

Lafayette returns to action when the calendar flips to the new year, hosting Colgate on New Year's Day inside Kirby Sports Center at 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
