Lamanna Nets Third Goal in Women’s Soccer Draw with Boston U.

Super sub Melissa Lamanna has scored in three consecutive games.

EASTON, Pa. -- Lafayette College women's soccer battled Boston University to a 1-1 draw in its first matchup at Oaks Stadium this season.

For the third consecutive game, sophomore forward Melissa Lamanna came off the bench late in the first half and netted the Leopards' opening goal.

A pair of freshmen set up the goal, with defender Lauren Cunningham's pass slipping midfielder Shannon Phee in behind Boston University's back line before Phee centered to Lamanna to put Lafayette up 1-0 in the 40th minute. Lamanna now has a team-high three goals on the season, while this is the first career point for both Cunningham and Phee.

Lafayette outshot the Terriers 16-10 and placed six of those attempts on goal, but Boston University found its equalizer on a set piece header from junior forward Ashley Raphael in the 80th minute.

The Leopards continued their offensive efforts into overtime, tallying seven of their shots and four of their nine corner kicks in those extra periods, but could not clinch the win with a go-ahead goal.

Lafayette senior forward Sophie Saldivar had a game-high five shots, while senior forward Rebecca Schreiner led the team by placing two of her three attempts on goal. Senior goalkeeper Maggie Pohl made a team-high two saves and kept a clean sheet during her 45 minutes of play.

The Leopards host their final regular season home game of the year against Army next Saturday at 6 p.m.
