EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette women's lacrosse team returned from a two-week layoff on Saturday afternoon at Fisher Stadium, falling to Colgate by a 22-9 final.
The Raiders' Cara O'Reilly got everything started for the visitors, finishing two off the Patriot League record with 19 draw controls on the afternoon. Colgate converted early and often as the Leopards just couldn't dig out of an early hole, trailing 13-5 at halftime, and couldn't find enough possession for a comeback to materialize.
When the Leopards were able to get offensive time, junior
Olivia Cunningham found paydirt with a team-high three goals and an assist for four points on the day. Freshman
Clare Culligan was the other multi-goal scorers, netting her first two career tallies in the second half.
Senior co-captain
Quinn Lacy made six saves in 46:43 of action, while freshman
Lexie Coldiron saw 13:17 of relief, allowing three goals with a save in her time. Sophomore
Kerry Tuorto led the defense with a pair of caused turnovers and senior
Mia Magarro picked up a team-high four ground balls.
The Maroon and White fought on Saturday afternoon, winning the ground ball battle, 17-16, but were on the low end of shots, 36-26, and won just eight of the game's 32 draw controls. The Leopards converted on 5-of-9 from the eight-spot and forced the Raiders into 14 turnovers while committing just nine of their own.
Next up for Lafayette is a trip to Boston on Sunday to battle Boston U. at noon.
