QUAKERTOWN, Pa. -- Lafayette College men's tennis (1-4, 1-1 Patriot League) dropped a non-conference match against Fordham, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon.
Leopards junior William Barry earned a win at first flight singles, defeating senior Fabian Mauritzson, who had won seven of his last eight matches dating back to last season. Barry prevailed, 6-4, in the first set, then rebounded after a 6-3 loss in the second set to win the third-set tiebreaker, 12-10.
The Leopards battled in their other ties with the Rams (2-0). In an effort described by Lafayette head coach Ralph Van Ormer as his team's best doubles play of the season, two tiebreakers separated the Leopards from earning the opening doubles point. Seniors John Yurconic and
Daniel Kramer forced a tiebreaker but fell 9-7 at first flight doubles, while
Josh Wolfe and
Ross Coleman also made it to the decider at second flight doubles in a 7-4 tiebreaker loss.
Lafayette hosts another non-conference match at 4 p.m. on Friday against La Salle.
