EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette men's soccer team fell to American in the Patriot League Tournament Championship game in double overtime on Saturday at Oaks Stadium.
Lafayette was led by sophomore
Hale Lombard who netted the Leopards lone goal of the game. Junior
Will Echeverria totaled one assist and sophomore
David Mizrahi totaled a team-high four shots.
American (4-1-2) found the back of the net first in the 22
nd minute before it would be Lombard who would net the equalizer for the Leopards (7-1) in the 28
th minute off the assist from Echeverria.
Neither squad could find the back of the net, forcing the game to go into a 10 minute overtime period. At the end of the first overtime period, the score still sat tied at 1-1, sending the game into a second overtime period.
Two minutes into the second overtime of the afternoon it was American that netted the game-winner to take a 2-1 victory and the Patriot League Championship title.
Lombard was named to the All-Tournament team along with junior
Nick Hazel and junior
Max Ippolito.
The Leopards closed out their 2021 spring season with an impressive 7-1 overall record, going undefeated in the North Division and in regular season action.
