Baseball Sweeps Bucknell in Saturday Doubleheader

Leopards close out regular season action tomorrow against the Bison in Easton

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Lafayette baseball team swept the Bucknell Bison on Saturday in Lewisburg, winning game one 4-3 and game two 10-4.
 
The Leopards were led in game one by senior Colin Hartey who went 3-for-4 with one run and two RBIs. Sophomore Seif Ingram went 2-for-4 with two runs and freshman Justin Grech went 1-for-2 with an RBI.
 
Starting pitcher sophomore Kyle Subers threw his second complete game of the season, going all seven innings, striking out seven and earning his third win of the spring.
 
In game two Lafayette was led by junior Justin Johnson who went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, two runs and including two doubles and a triple. Grech went 1-for-3 with a team-high three runs, a double and two RBIs. Senior Ethan Stern and junior Dylan Minghini also each recorded two RBIs in the win.
 
Game two starting pitcher sophomore Nolan Morr went 5.0 innings earning the win. Freshman Adam Bogosian came in for four innings of relief and earned his first collegiate save.  
 
Bucknell (10-22, 10-15 PL) struck first, plating three runs in the bottom of the third. Lafayette (13-14, 12-12 PL) tied-up the game in the top of the sixth.
 
Ingram started off the inning with a single and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Hartey hit an RBI single to right field bringing home Ingram to cut into the Bison's lead.
 
Junior Zach Savage singled to left field advancing Hartey to second and putting the tying run on base. Grech tied up the game with a single, and then advanced to second on a fielding error by the Bison, bringing home both Savage and Hartey.
 
The Leopards put themselves in the lead in the top of the seventh. Ingram found himself on second after singling and then advancing to second on a balk. Hartey then singled to bring home Ingram and put the Leopards up 4-3.  
 
Subers got the Bison in order in the bottom of the seventh to secure the game one victory for the Leopards.
 
Game two saw an explosive six run fourth inning for the Maroon and White. After already being up by three, Hartey and Savage started off the top of the fourth inning with back-to-back singles. They both then advanced on a wild pitch, putting runners on second and third for freshman Blaze Fadio.
 
Fadio was hit by a pitch, loading the bases for Grech who doubled to bring home Stern and Hartey and put the Leopards up 5-0.
 
With Fadio at third and Grech at second, Johnson hit his first triple of the season to clear the bases and put the Leopards up by seven.
 
Stern then reached base on a Bison throwing error and Johnson crossed home plate to put the Leopards up 8-0. A single by Minghini then brought Stern home to put the Leopards up 9-0 heading into the fifth inning.
 
The Bison got one run on the board in the fifth and two more in the sixth to pull within nine.  
 
With Grech on base in the eighth, Johnson hit his second double of the game to bring home Grech and put the Leopards up 10-3. The Bison added one more run in the bottom of the ninth but Bogosian struck out the final Bison batter of the afternoon to give the Leopards the 10-4 victory and Saturday sweep.
 
Up next the Leopard and Bison will close out regular season action Sunday in Easton with a doubleheader. Game one is slated for a 12:30 p.m. start and prior to game one, the Leopards seven seniors, Ethan Stern, Michael Landry, Michael Dunn, Bill Russo, Hunter Silvernail, Colin Hartey and Tyler Faccenda will be recognized.
