Second-Half Comeback Falls Short at Loyola

Leopards cut the lead to two with four minutes left

BALTIMORE – After trailing by as many as 15 points, the Lafayette College men's basketball team cut the Loyola lead to just two points with four minutes to play, but ultimately fell Thursday night, 74-60 in Reitz Arena.

Junior Neal Quinn came off the bench to score 15 points with six rebounds and five assists to lead the way for the Leopards while classmate Leo O'Boyle got hot in the second half to score 13.

It was all Greyhounds in the first half and went on an early 11-0 run to force a Lafayette timeout before the game's first media timeout.

The tables turned in the second as Lafayette went on a 9-0 run and forced a Loyola timeout prior to the first break in the action as sophomore Kyle Jenkins slammed home a back-door pass from Quinn and senior Tyrone Perry connected on a 3-pointer.

Another Leopard flurry came as O'Boyle and sophomore Jon Brantley hit back-to-back triples to make it a five-point game at the 7:48 mark. Freshman CJ Fulton joined the party two possessions later with a 3-pointer of his own, however Loyola had answered with back-to-back triples of its own to hold on to an eight-point lead.

Fulton and O'Boyle connected on back-to-back possessions again to make it 62-58 and after a Loyola turnover, Quinn slammed home a wide-open look from Fulton to make it a two-point game.

Loyola would lockdown defensively and hold Lafayette scoreless over the game's final four minutes to pull away down the stretch.

The home team shot it at 55% for the game, led by Jaylin Andrews' 21 points.

Fulton scored 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting and 2-of-2 from 3-point range with four assists while Jenkins chipped in with eight points and five boards. Freshman Chris Rubayo made his first career start.

The Leopards head back to Kirby Sports Center for a pair of contests, beginning with Army on Sunday at 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
