EASTON, Pa.– The Lafayette field hockey team defeated the University of Richmond Spiders 4-3 on Sunday afternoon.
The Leopards celebrated seven seniors and their accomplishments in the announcements before starting lineups:
Molly McAndrew,
Shea Balderson,
Sydney Woolston,
Tara Hamilton,
Felicitas Hannes,
Simone Hefting and
Becca Harbert. Each graduating student-athlete was walked onto the field by their parents or siblings to receive flowers and cheers from their fellow teammates.
Woolston got the scoring started with a reverse sweep on the move past the Richmond goalkeeper at 5:42.
The Spiders struck back at 14:33 from Regan McCrossan's rebound shot.
Hannes put her own rebound in at 19:01. The Cologne, Germany native then sent a cross-circle pass to freshman
Catalina Rubel (42:58).
The Spiders' final two goals came from Lainey Nichols and Lindsey Frank (29:54, 48:58).
Hefting earned the game-winner at 53:34, assisted by
Hannah Findlay and
Lineke Spaans, during a penalty corner. The Den Bosch, Netherlands native made a defensive save at 36:52, stopping a shot by Richmond's Nash Urich.
The Spiders held the advantage in total shots (15-12) and penalty corners (5-3).

Raffi Fragomeni made two saves before sharing the net with junior
Emma Garvey who made three. Their Richmond counterpart, Erika Latta, made five saves.
It will surely be a Senior Day to remember for the seven graduating Leopards as we wish them luck in all of their future endeavors!
The Leopards will travel to Drexel (Oct. 7) and No. 6 Penn State (Oct. 9) next weekend.
