WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Lafayette College volleyball team split the first two sets Saturday afternoon , but eventually fell 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 22-25,17-25) to Army.
Sophomore
Abby Nieporte led the Leopards with 13 kills, while sophomore
Anna Penman had a double-double with 35 assists and 15 digs.
After dropping the opening set to the Black Knights, the Leopards roared back to win a hard-fought second set 25-21. In the third set, Lafayette battled back to trail Army by one, but Army secured the final two points of the set to win 25-22. The Leopards could not recover in the fourth set, falling to Amy 25-17.
The Black Knights hit .199 for the match, along with 18 total blocks. Paige Fixemer led Army in kills with 16, Diana Ethridge had 45 assists and Sayler Butters had 23 digs.
Lafayette junior
Gracie Gibson had 10 kills, while a trio of Leopards, senior
Grace Steurer, senior
Mataya Megson and freshman
Carol Ulichney, had seven kills each. Junior
Katie Weston, Nieporte and Penman each had two service aces. Weston also led the Leopards with 20 digs.
Lafayette returns home on Friday to host Loyola at 7 p.m.
