State College, Pa.– The Lafayette field hockey team was defeated by the Penn State Nittany Lions 2-1 in double overtime on Sunday afternoon.
Penn State's Anna Simon took the first goal of the match with a penalty corner drive (12:41 Q1).
Senior forward
Molly McAndrew tied the game while battling in front of the net in the second quarter (8:23). The Cherry Hill, N.J. native currently leads the Leopards with four goals and two assists for 10 points.
Both teams had good looks on the cage, but neither would be successful until the second overtime period. Penn State's Sophia Gladieux converted the golden goal on a fast break at 6:28.
The Nittany Lions held the advantage in total shots (18-5) and penalty corners (7-0).
Lafayette's junior goalkeeper
Emma Garvey made four saves, while her Penn State counterpart, Brie Barraco, made two.
The Leopards will host league-opponent Boston U. (Oct. 15) and travel to Yale (Oct. 16) next weekend.
