WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Lafayette volleyball team was defeated in four sets (18-25, 12-25, 25-20, 14-25) by American University on Friday evening at Bender Arena.
Sophomore
Abby Nieporte led the Leopards in kills with 13, while junior
Katie Weston had 16 digs and junior
Alyssa Vitale contributed 36 assists.
American came out hot in the first set, scoring the first five points of the set and the Eagles did not look back, winning the set 25-18.
Lafayette scored first in the second set, but the Eagles responded with three straight points of their own to take a 3-1 lead. After American regained the lead from the Leopards, the Eagles did not relinquish it for the rest of the set, winning the second set 25-12.
In the third set, both teams traded points until Lafayette secured a 10-7 lead. The Leopards controlled the remainder of the set, winning 25-20.
In the fourth set, the Leopards scored first, but American responded to score seven of the next eight points to take control of the set. The Eagles continued their hot start and won the set 25-12 and the match 3-1.
Senior
Grace Steurer recorded 10 Kills and 13 digs, freshman
Carol Ulichney contributed seven kills and senior
Mataya Megson was credited with six kills. Vitale and Weston both had two service aces.
With tonight's match, the Leopards concluded their 2022 campaign, finishing the season with an 8-15 overall record and 5-11 in the Patriot League.
