Fordham's Offense Outlasts the Leopards

Gabe DuBois led the team in tackles with seven total, including one tackle for loss.

BRONX, N.Y. - No. 18/23 Fordham's offense proved too much for the Leopards on Saturday at Jack Coffey Field, as the Rams pulled away for a 45-10 final.

Fordham's Tim DeMorat accounted for six touchdowns on the afternoon, four passing and two rushing. He completed 32-of-45 for 482 yards, including two touchdowns each to Fotis Kokosioulis and Dequece Carter.

For Lafayette, Ah-Shaun Davis completed 15-of-27 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown to Chris Carasia to go along with an interception. On the ground, Jamar Curtis totaled 40 yards on eight carries. Defensively, Gabe DuBois led the team with seven, including one tackle for loss.

Next up for the Leopards is the 158th edition of college football's most-played rivalry when Lafayette hosts Lehigh on Nov. 19 at 12:30 p.m.

On the first play of Fordham's second drive, DeMorat completed a deep ball to Mekai Felton for 59 yards to the Lafayette 13-yard line. Julius Loughridge gave the Rams another first down after a 10-yard carry to reach Lafayette's three-yard line. Two plays later, DeMorat ran the ball into the end zone on a quarterback sneak from one yard out to open up the scoring and put the Rams up 7-0.

On the ensuing possession, Lafayette was forced to punt from its own 48-yard line, resulting in a touchback. Fordham was flagged for a hold on the drive's first play, but DeMorat escaped the pressure on second down and threw a ball down the sideline to Kokosioulis, who made a one-handed grab to give the Rams a new set of downs. DeMorat then completed a screen pass to Kokosioulis for 35 yards and another first down. On 3rd-and-goal, DeMorat was unable to find his intended receiver and the Rams were held to a field goal.

The Leopards were unable to capitalize on their next offensive possession. On a 3rd-and-10, Davis was intercepted by Stephen Williams on a pass intended for Carasia. The Maroon and White defense stood tall however, forcing the Rams to punt after a three-and-out.

On the ensuing possession, the Leopards lined up to punt on fourth down, but the Rams were flagged for roughing the kicker, giving Lafayette a new set of downs. On 3rd-and-6, a Davis screen pass was speared out of the air one-handed by Jaden Sutton to keep the drive alive. On the next play, Davis hit Elijah Steward over the middle for a gain of 18 and another Leopard first down at the Fordham 27-yard-line. After an unsuccessful screen pass to Curtis on third down, the Leopards kept the offense on the field for fourth down. Davis completed a pass to Mason Gilbert, but he was ruled out of bounds and the Rams regained possession on their own 23-yard-line.

The Fordham offense drove down the field again with DeMorat completing passes to three different receivers, ending with a three-yard touchdown run from the quarterback to extend the Rams lead to 17-0.

On the next possession, Davis completed a 40-yard pass on third down to Julius Young to the Fordham 20-yard line. Faced with another third down, the Leopards tried a double reverse to Steward but he was not able to pick up the first down. Coach John Troxell sent out the field goal unit and the 30-yard kick from Jakob Trestik was true to make the score 17-3 with under two minutes remaining in the first half.

DeMorat and the offense then finished the first half scoring when DeMorat hit Dequece Carter to give Fordham a 24-3 halftime lead.

Lafayette received the kick to start the second half, and Davis was able to find Gilbert on the second play of the drive for a Lafayette first down. After a holding penalty and a fumbled snap recovered by Davis, Lafayette was faced with a third-and-20. Davis could not find anywhere to throw the ball and the Leopards were forced to punt again on fourth down.

Lafayette opened the scoring in the second half when Davis found Carasia in the corner of the end zone on the Leopards' second possession, cutting the Fordham lead to to 24-10.

DeMorat threw touchdown passes on Fordham's next two possessions, the first a 35-yard strike to Carter and the second a 33-yarder to Kokosioulis as the Rams extended the lead to 38-10. Fordham notched its final score of the day when DeMorat found Kokosioulis from 14 yards out.
