STATE COLLEGE, Pa.- Penn State used its home-court advantage to shoot over 48% from the floor and knock off the Lafayette men's basketball team by a 70-57 final Friday night in the Bryce Jordan Center.
Senior captain
Leo O'Boyle was the Leopards' main option throughout the night, going for 19 points and shooting 4-for-5 from 3-point range. The Scranton, Pa. native also shot at 66.7% from the floor and netted all three free throws.
The Leopards proved they were ready to compete, jumping out to a 19-12 lead by 12:13 in the first half. The program's captains, O'Boyle and
CJ Fulton, both tallied 3-pointers to earn the early advantage which was Lafayette's largest lead of the game.
The Maroon and White fought hard to keep up with Penn State, netting 20 points off the bench and 16 in the paint during the first period of play.
The Nittany Lions built their lead up to 10 by the halftime buzzer, thanks to a 16-of-28 shooting performance from the floor and a 50% success rate from the 3-point range.
Penn State featured a balanced scoring attack with three Nittany Lions in double figures led by Jalen Pickett's 18, highlighted by a 7-for-10 performance on the floor.
O'Boyle was the lone Leopard to reach double-digit points with 19, just three points from his season-high 22 against UMBC on Nov. 18. The senior captain has now reached double figures in five games of the young season.
Sophomore
Justin Vander Baan recorded nine points on the evening, matching his season-high at Miami on Nov. 7. The Northbridge, Mass. native was followed by
Chris Rubayo and
Kyle Jenkins with seven apiece.
The road trip continues on Nov. 30 when the Leopards travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to take on Drexel at 7 p.m.
