ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The 2022 season for the Lafayette men's soccer team came to an end at Navy on Saturday night with a 1-0 loss in a Patriot League Tournament quarterfinal round game.
The Midshipmen got on the board in the 24th minute. Baba Kallie dished the ball inside the 18 to Jason Aoyama, who put it between the pipes.
Lafayette controlled momentum during the second half, pushing to put the equalizer into the back of the net. The maroon and white dominated in corners 5-1 in the second half, but could not find the back of the net.
In the 89th minute, junior midfielder
Hale Lombard nearly put the ball over the head of Navy goalkeeper Pierce Holbrook, but the 6'4" keeper just got a hand on the shot to deflect the ball over the crossbar.
The Leopards dominated offensively in the second half, putting up 11 shots to Navy's six. Lombard led the way with five of the Leopards' 17 total shots. Despite trailing in total shots, Navy scored the lone goal in the contest to send them to the PLT Semifinal.
Senior goalkeeper
Alex Sutton recorded six saves and one goal against, while his Navy counterpart Pierce Holbrook recorded five saves.
The Leopards finish the season with a record of 9-6-4 and 3-2-4 in the Patriot League.
