PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- The Lafayette men's basketball team earned a commanding 90-65 victory against La Salle on Wednesday afternoon inside Philadelphia's Tom Gola Arena.
The 2022-23 squad found its footing against head coach
Mike Jordan's former leader, Fran Dunphy, in the final non-conference road trip, shooting 61.5 percent from the field and 57.7 percent from 3-point range.
The Leopards jumped out to an early 11-4 lead with eight points coming from senior captain
Leo O'Boyle (16:24). Back-to-back 3-pointers from
Ryan Zambie and
CJ Fulton extended that advantage to eight at 12:01, 21-13.
Lafayette made a 16-9 run down to the six-minute mark, 34-22. The Explorers matched the Maroon and White during the remaining minutes, with Lafayette leading 45-30 at the buzzer.
La Salle took five of the first six buckets in the second half, making a 9-3 run of its own to stay within 10 at 17:04.
The Leopards locked in to get away with a slim 16-11 stretch, fueled by four Fulton 3-pointers, 64-48, at 12:28.
Josh Rivera put up six points in a 10-5 run immediately following the under-eight media timeout, 74-53.
Lafayette continued to pepper the offensive rim, as the Leopards' largest lead took place with only 37 seconds remaining in the game, 90-63.
A career-high 20 points from Fulton allowed the program to take home a 90-65 victory for the holiday break.
The Maroon and White had 32 points in the paint, 29 off the bench and out-rebounded the Explorers 36-22. La Salle shot 41.1 percent from the field, led by Khalil Brantley with 14 points.
The Leopards host American at 7 p.m. on Dec. 30 in the first Patriot League match-up.
