ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Lafayette swimming and diving team continued their season today at Day 4 of the Patriot League Championships. The morning consisted of the preliminaries, with the finals tonight.
On the men's side, the 200 yard backstroke kicked off the action, as Lafayette finished 21st, 23rd, and 26th in the race. Leading the charge was
Peter Kawash (1:51.75), with
James Lapsley (1:52.95) and
Thomas Krystkiewicz (1:55.09) behind him.
Aaron Tupper also put forward another big race, finishing 13th in the 100 yard freestyle in a time of 45.48. Behind him in 28th place was
Ben Arky in a time of 46.77.
Michael Gorgan came back this morning and swam a tremendous race, finishing sixth overall in the 200 yard breaststroke in a time of 1:59.01. Behind Gorgan in 21st place was
Jack Oleson, finishing in a time of 2:07.28.
Finishing off the prelims was the 200 yard butterfly, with two strong performances from Lafayette. Leading the way was
Andrew Campbell, finishing 14th in a time of 1:51.09. Behind Campbell in 18th place was
Avery Letourneau in a time of 1:52.47.
On the women's side,
Maggie Ivie kicked off the action strongly, finishing 19th overall in a time of 2:07.14. Finishing behind her in 23rd place was
Danielle Carr in a time of 2:08.67.
The 100 yard freestyle was another successful event for Lafayette, finishing 21st and 23rd in the event. Leading the way was
Emily Wilson (21st, 52.74) and
Samantha Talecki (23rd, 53.03).
Haleigh Marzano continued her strong showing at the Patriot League Championships, finishing 15th overall in the 200 yard breaststroke in a final time of 2:24.29. Behind Marzano in 21st place was
Tara Leininger, finishing in a time of 2:25.37.
The 200 yard butterfly also produced some good finishes, as Lafayette finished 23rd, 26th, and 28th in the race. Leading the way was
Sophia Toomey (2:07.73), with
Lauren Lapsley (2:08.34) and
Lindsey Monaco (2:09.54) behind her.
Finals:
On the men's side,
Nicholas Sabella kicked off th action for the men, finishing 19th in the 1650 yard freestyle in a time of 16:22.96.Â
Aaron Tupper had another strong showing in Saturday's finals, finishing 14th overall in the 100 yard freestyle in a final time of 45.36 to score three points to the men's total.
Michael Gorgan once again delivered a huge performance, finishing seventh in the 200 yard breaststroke in a time of 1:59.41 to score another 12 points to the men's total.
In the 200 yard butterfly,
Andrew Campbell finished 14th overall in a time of 1:50.78 to add another three points to the team total.
Closing out the scoring for the men was the 400 yard freestyle relay, consisting of
Ben Arky,
Justin Lloyd,
Michael Gorgan, and
Aaron Tupper, finishing fifth overall in a final time of 3:02.31. This finish scored the final 28 points for the men and is a new school record in the event. This time breaks the previous school record of 3:04.49 set in 2020.
On the women's side,
Sydney Perks opened up the finals, finishing 17th in the 1650 yard freestyle in a time of 17:42.21. Finishing behind her was
Samantha Becker (26th, 17:58.92) and
Paige Griggs (27th. 18:01.80).
Scoring the first points in the finals was
Haleigh Marzano, finishing 13th in the 200 yard breaststroke to add four points to the women's total.
Scoring the final points on the women's side was the 400 freestyle relay, consisting of
Samantha Talecki,
Tara Leininger,
Maggie Ivie, and
Emily Wilson, finishing ninth in a time of 3:29.69 to score 18 points. The finish is a new school record in the event, breaking the previous 2015 record time of 3:32.06.
The men finished seventh overall with 194 points while the women finished tenth overall with 71 points.
