WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Lafayette College baseball team dropped its final game of the weekend, 15-8, to Georgetown on Sunday afternoon.

The Leopards were led by junior
Pete Ciuffreda who went 2 for 4 with two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs. Junior
Kyle Chmielewski went 2 for 3 with one hit and one RBI, and freshman
Easton Brenner went 1 for 3 with his first collegiate home run.
Â
Brenner got Lafayette (0-4, 0-0 PL) on the board early, off a solo home run in the top of the first.
Â
Georgetown (1-2, 0-0 Big East) responded right away in the bottom of the first inning, exploding for six runs off a grand slam and home run, to take a 6-1 lead.

The Hoyas added one more run in the bottom of the second and two in the bottom of the third to take a 9-1 lead.

Lafayette started to chip away at Georgetown's lead in the top of the fourth. Freshman
Michael Zarrillo led off the inning with a walk. A double by senior
Dylan Minghini then put runners on second and third for the Leopards.

Ciuffreda than singled to right field to advance Minghini to third and bring Zarrillo home to put the score at 9-2. Freshman
Carter Dorighi drew a walk to advance Ciuffreda to second and load the bases. Senior
Zach Savage then drew a bases loaded walk to bring Minghini across home plate and keep the bases loaded.

Chmielwski hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Ciuffreda and send the game into the bottom of the fourth with the score 9-4 Georgetown.

The Hoyas responded with five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 14-4 lead heading into the fifth. A solo home run in the bottom of the seventh gave them a 15-4 lead.

Lafayette added two more runs in the top of the eighth after Zarrillo singled to right field to put a runner on first. Two batters later Ciuffreda hit his first home run of the season, bringing both him and Zarrillo home to put the score at 15-6. Â

Senior pitcher
Frank Craska got the Hoya batters in order in the bottom of the eighth, sending the game to the top of the ninth with one more chance for the Leopards bats to get hot.

Chmielewski singled in an attempt to start a late rally for the Lafayette Nine. Sophomore
Justin Grech followed Chmeiewski's single with a single of his own to put runners on first and second. The next batter, freshman
Kaleb Willis, walked to load the bases.

Zarrillo reached base on a fielder's choice bringing both Grech and Chmielewski home and pulling the Leopards within seven of the Hoyas, but sophomore
Michael Mallas struck out swinging to end the inning and send Georgetown back Washington, D.C. with the victory.

Up next for Lafayette is a three game series with Virginia Military Institute starting on Friday in Lexington, Virginia. Friday's game is slated for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
