PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Lafayette closed out the Eastern Shore Classic on Sunday afternoon with an 14-7 win over host UMES. The Leopards rallied for nine runs in the top of the seventh to finish the opening weekend with a 3-1 record.

The Leopards trailed 7-5 entering their final at-bat and UMES was close to finishing off the game when the Hawks retired the first two batters of the inning. Sophomores
Paige Sandidge and
Kristen Brown each drew walks to represent the tying runs. Then freshman
Kaya Ciccone-Cozart came through with a two-run double that knotted the game at 7-7.

Junior
Erica Brasher contributed the go-ahead single that scored Ciccone-Cozart for the 8-7 margin.
Julia Romano (RBI-single) and
Grace Harvey (two-run double) followed with timely hits, prompting a pitching change. The rally kept its momentum thanks to
Julia Roman (RBI-single) and Sandidge (two-run double) driving in three more runs. The Leopards sent 12 batters to the plate in the inning to capture the 14-7 final. Â

On the third day of play, there was plenty of scoring early on. Sandidge singled home the Leopards' first run of the game in the first inning. Lafayette added three more in the second with
Natasha Miner (RBI-groundout) and
Kinzi Van Wyk's (two-run single) both bringing home runners.

The Leopards gave up two in the first and three in the second and trailed 5-4. In the top of the third inning, Lafayette knotted the game at 5-5. Brasher walked and later scored on a Romano groundout. Â

UMES answered with two runs in the fourth inning aided by a pair of Leopard errors and led 7-5 heading into the final inning when the Leopard bats took care of things.

Harvey finished the day 3-for-5 with two RBI, while Sandidge (2-for-4) drove in three runs and Van Wyk two. Van Wyk was also the pitcher of record, securing her second win in her third appearance of the weekend. She threw the final five innings, allowing two runs on three hits with a season-high five strikeouts.

Lafayette will next play March 5-6 in a four-game series at George Mason.
