EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette baseball team defeated Saint Peter's at Kamine Stadium on Wednesday afternoon in the team's season home opener, 13-3. The game was called in the sixth inning due to darkness.
The Leopards were led by sophomore
Justin Grech who went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, and junior
Seif Ingram who was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs. Junior
Pete Ciuffreda totaled a team-leading three RBIs while Grech stole four bases.

Jordan Yoder picked up his second win of the season.
Lafayette (4-13) struck first in the top of the first, exploding for five runs. Grech started off the inning with a walk and then stole both second and third. The next batter, freshman
Easton Brenner drew a walk and then stole second to put runners on first and second with no outs. A wild pitch scored Grech and handed Lafayette a 1-0 lead.

Carter Dorighi singled home Brenner and put Lafayette up 2-0. Freshman
Michael Zarrillo then doubled to clear the bases and put the Leopards in front by four. Senior
Evan Kiah's single brought home Zarrillo and give Lafayette a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the first.
Saint Peter's (3-14) scored arun in the top of the second, one run in the top of the third and one run in the top of the fourth, but the Leopards added one run in the bottom of the second to send the game into the fifth with the score 6-3.
Lafayette added seven more runs in the fifth after Minghini reached base for the Leopards with a walk. Dorighi and junior
Kyle Chmielewski then walked to load the bases. The Peacocks' pitcher then walked Kiah to move up all the runners and put another Leopard run across the plate.
Ingram singled home Dorighi and Chmielewski. A batter later, Grech drove in Kiah as Lafayette led by seven. Brenner then drew a walk to load the bases once again. Ciuffreda hit a bases clearing double to put Lafayette ahead by 10, 13-3.
The Leopards' defense held the Peacocks scoreless in the top of the sixth to close out the game and earn the home opener victory.

Saint Peter's was led by junior Nick Markantonatos who went 2-for-2 with one run. Graduate student Tom Buckman led the Peacocks with two RBIs. Starting pitcher freshman Jack Gannon went 1.0 innings.

The Leopards are back in action on Saturday for a doubleheader at Kamine as they are set to open Patriot League action against crosstown rival Lehigh. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m. with game two to follow shortly after.
