PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. – The Lafayette College baseball team dropped its mid-week contest on Tuesday afternoon to Villanova, 11-4.

The Leopards were led by freshman
Kaleb Willis who went 3-for-4 with a double and freshman
Easton Brenner who went 1-for-5 with an RBI. Â

Starting pitcher junior
Nolan Morr went 5.2 innings striking out two.
Â
Villanova (2-9) struck first in the bottom of the second, scoring five to take an early 5-0 lead.

Lafayette (2-10) responded in the third after Willis started off the inning with a double. Sophomore
Justin Grech moved Willis 90 feet closer before Brenner drove him in with a single up the middle.

The Wildcats added another run in the bottom of the third to take a 6-1 lead.

The Lafayette Nine started to chip away at Villanova's lead in the sixth. Senior
Dylan Minghini started off the inning with a single and then junior
Kyle Chmielewski followed with a single of his own to put runners on first and second.

Freshman
Michael Zarrillo reached base on a fielder's choice to advance both Minghini and Chmielewski. A bad throw by the Wildcats' shortstop allowed Minghini to score and Chmielewski to move to third. Lafayette trailed 6-2.

Willis kept the inning going with a single that scored Minghini and moved Zarrillo to third. Lafayette added another run on a balk call, to pull within 6-4.Â

Villanova responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a five-run lead. Â

Lafayette threatened to close the scoring gap in the top of the eighth. Zarrillo walked to start off the inning and junior
Seif Ingram and Willis singled to load the bases with one out, but no runs crossed the plate as Grech grounded into a double play to end the inning.

The home team added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth to eventually earn an 11-4 mid-week victory.

The Wildcats were led by junior Jack O'Reilly who went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Up next for the Leopards is an eight-game road stretch. They are set to face Wofford College for a three-game series starting on Friday at 6 p.m. Â
