Army Defeats Lafayette, 15-6, Sunday Afternoon

Lafayette returns to action on Wednesday at Lehigh

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette College baseball team fell to Army West Point, 15-6, in the third game of a three-game series on Sunday afternoon at Kamine Stadium.
 
Lafayette (12-26, 7-7 PL) was led by sophomore Justin Grech who went 2-for-3 with a team-leading three RBIs. Senior Dylan Minghini, sophomore Michael Mallas, freshman Carter Dorighi, and junior Seif Ingram each also recorded a hit in the loss. Starting pitcher junior Kyle Subers went 3.1 innings.
 
Army (17-17, 10-4 PL) struck first in the top of the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead on a bases loaded sacrifice fly. The Black Knights then added one more run in the top of the second to take a 2-0 lead heading into the third inning.
 
The Black Knights exploded for four runs in the third and three in the fourth to take a 9-0 lead heading into the fifth inning.
 
The Leopards' defense was able to hold the Black Knights scoreless in the top of the fifth for the first time all afternoon but was unable to plate a run to send the game into the top of the sixth with Army still holding the 9-0 lead. The Black Knights then added four more in the sixth to give Army a 13-0 lead.  
 
The Leopards got a run on the board in the bottom of the sixth off an RBI double by Mallas to put the score at 13-1. A batter later, Grech singled to score Mallas who as standing on second and sophomore Bo Planeta who was standing on third, putting the score at 13-3.
 
Army added two runs in the top of the seventh. Lafayette responded with two runs of its own in the bottom of the seventh, and one run in the bottom of the ninth to bring the final to 15-6.  
 
Lafayette returns to action on Wednesday, April 20 for a midweek Patriot League contest with crosstown rival Lehigh in Bethlehem at 3 p.m.
