WEST POINT, N.Y. – Lafayette dropped its final contest against Army 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Army West Point Softball Complex.
 
The game was a scoreless pitchers' duel until the bottom of the fifth inning.  The Leopards threatened in the top of the second, as a double to center field by senior Kinzi Van Wyk and a single by junior Julia Roman put runners on the corners with one out.  Back-to-back strikeouts by sophomore Bella Lowdermilk and sophomore Paige Sandidge ended Lafayette's threat. 

In the bottom of the fifth, Army's sophomore Ellie Caldwell reached on an error, junior Brooke Mitchell advanced Caldwell to second with a bunt single, and a passed ball advanced the runners to second and third.  Sophomore Julianna LaRusso followed with an infield single to third base, as Caldwell crossed the plate for the game's first run. The Black Knights added to their lead with an RBI groundout by sophomore Kayla Edwards that scored Mitchell from third. Army continued the inning with a triple by junior Lelia Hurst that scored LaRusso and gave Army a 3-0 lead. 

Van Wyk was charged with the loss, allowing three runs (none of which were earned) on four hits. She struck out three and walked one. Army starter senior Jolie Doung collected the win, throwing a complete game shutout, striking out three without a walk. 

Lafayette next hosts St. Peter's in a doubleheader on Tuesday at 3 p.m
