SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Lafayette College baseball team was defeated by Seton Hall 8-3 on Wednesday in a non-conference contest.

The Leopards were led by junior
Dylan Minghini who went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and junior
Pete Ciuffreda who went 3-for-4 with two runs. Starting pitcher freshman
Joe Skapinetz went 2.0 innings.

Seton Hall (13-28) opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI single by junior Oscar Murray. Later in the inning an RBI triple into left-center field by junior Devin Hack scored two more runs, but the Pirates were not done yet. Junior Jonathan Luders lined an RBI single to center field which gave the Pirates a 4-0 lead.

Lafayette (13-30) responded in the top of the fourth with back-to-back singles by freshman
Carter Dorighi and Ciuffreda which put runners on the corners with only one out for Minghini, who tripled into the left-center field gap to score Dorighi and Ciuffreda and cutting the Leopards' deficit to 4-2.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Pirates answered with three runs of their own. An RBI single to right field by Luders scored Murray from third. Then Hack scored on an RBI ground out to shortstop by freshman Pat D'Amico. Senior Steve Grober singled into left field and Luders scored, giving the Pirates a 7-2 lead.
Seton Hall added another run in the bottom of the sixth when Luders grounded out to second base and Murray scored, extending the Pirates lead to 8-2.
In the top of the ninth, Ciuffreda singled to right field and junior
Seif Ingram singled to left field. Freshman
Michael Zarrillo doubled to right field and Ciuffreda scored from second, cutting the Seton Hall lead to 8-3. Junior
Patrick Vandenbergh walked and loaded the bases with only one out, but the Leopards' comeback attempt fell short as they left all three runners on base.

Lafayette returns to Patriot League action on Saturday as the Leopards travel to Navy for a doubleheader. The first pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
