FAIRFIELD, Conn.– The Lafayette field hockey team was defeated by the Fairfield Stags 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.Â
Both teams were locked in a competitive battle in the midfield until the Leopards were awarded a penalty stroke at 23:47.
Senior forward
Felicitas Hannes fired the ball into the lower left side of the net for her second successful penalty stroke attempt of the 2022 season.
The Stags tied the game at 28:32 off of a penalty corner shot by Laia Vancells, assisted by Nora Amme.
Fairfield's Agustina Casteluchi scored the go-ahead goal at 34:04 from a stolen pass during a woman-up situation.
The Stags held the advantage in total shots (8-6) and penalty corners (6-1).
Lafayette's freshman goalkeeper
Raffi Fragomeni made three saves in the loss. Her Fairfield counterpart, Payton Rahn, made one.
The Leopards (1-5) host American on Saturday at noon in the Patriot League opener.
