EASTON, Pa.– The Lafayette field hockey team was defeated by the American University Eagles 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.Â
The Leopards showed extraordinary grit and determination as the game went on against the first conference foe of the year.
The Eagles struck first at 36:00; Charllene Boshoff was assisted by Lotta Curanz.
Sophomore midfielder
Lineke Spaans took a reverse shot from the top of the circle to earn the end-of-regulation tie (42:55).
American's Federica Turina Dellamaggiore was tabbed the game-winner at 63:08 in overtime.
American held the advantage in total shots (15-7) and penalty corners (7-2).
Lafayette's junior goalkeeper
Emma Garvey made five saves in the loss. Her American counterpart, Bryn Underwood, made four.
The Leopards host the University of New Hampshire tomorrow at 1 p.m.
