WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Lafayette field hockey team was defeated by the No. 20 Wake Forest Demon Deacons 6-1 on Friday evening. The Leopards are currently 1-2 overall (0-0 PL) and will see two more weekends of play before facing any Patriot League opponents, starting with American on Sept. 17.

Wake Forest got on the board early with a penalty corner goal by Meike Lanckohr, assisted by Lee Ann Gordon and Grace Delmotte (2:13). Lanckohr added another tally at 7:10.

The Demon Deacons' Sky Caron scored off of another penalty corner, assisted by Delmotte and Gordon, at 11:26. Freshman forward/midfielder Catalina Rubel was able to test the Wake Forest keeper once before the end of the first quarter.

Lafayette's captain and senior forward Molly McAndrew earned her first goal of the season at 20:09, unassisted.  

Wake Forest's streak from Hannah Maxwell, Ashley Hart and Maggie Dickman rounded out the game for a 6-1 final score.

The Demon Deacons held the advantage in total shots (23-5), as well as penalty corners (9-0).

Lafayette's junior goalkeeper Emma Garvey made two saves in the defeat before sharing the net with freshman Raffi Fragomeni, making three saves.

Their Wake Forest counterparts, Ellie Todd and Tori Glaister, made one save apiece.

The Leopards will close out this weekend at VCU on Sunday at 1 p.m. before returning to Easton next Friday.
