Leopards Wrap Up Season at Navy

Oswald had five shots for Lafayette

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Lafayette women's soccer dropped its final regular season contest to Navy, 1-0, on Wednesday at Glen Warner Soccer Facility.

The Mids wasted no time jumping out to an early advantage. In the second minute, a throw-in by Alexa Riddle came down to Jenna Daunt, who lofted a pass to the right side of the box where Marlee Heaven connected on a long-range header to give Navy a 1-0 lead.

Lafayette played well offensively in the first half, recording a total of eight shots, with senior Sara Oswald having two shots on goal, but none of the shots were able to get past Navy goalkeeper Mattie Gallagher.

In the second half, the Leopards continued to pepper Gallagher with shots, with possibly none better than in the 59th minute when freshman Nadia Zaffanella ripped a shot from the left side of the box that forced Gallagher to fully extend and go airborne to prevent the laser off the right foot of Zaffanella from going into the goal.

Lafayette continued to put pressure on the Navy defense, but was unable to score, leaving the final tally at 1-0.

Lafayette ended the evening with 17 shots, six of which were on goal.  Navy had 24 shots, with nine on goal. The Leopards were awarded two corners, while the Mids had one. Oswald led the Leopards in shots, with five.

Senior Lafayette goalkeeper Lindsay Dewar (eight saves) started the match for the Leopards and played the full 90 minutes. Gallagher (five saves) also played 90 minutes.

The Maroon and White conclude their 2023 campaign with an 7-8-1 overall record and a 3-6 record in the Patriot League.
