Men’s Soccer Earns a Point in Scoreless Draw

Leopards are back in action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday vs. Navy

EASTON, Pa.- The Lafayette men's soccer team earned a point in its scoreless draw with Bucknell at Gummeson Grounds: Home of Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Prior to kickoff, the men's soccer program honored its eight graduating seniors for all of their hard work and dedication over their careers. Those seniors are Eric Ponieman, Eddie Grant, Tenneyson Wnek, Benji Grossi, Brendan Tomlinson, David Mizrahi, Hale Lombard and Jack Needham.

When the match commenced, the first few minutes of play were stagnant from both sides. Neither team took too many risky chances as both tried to secure long spells of possession.

Lombard had a great opportunity for the Maroon and White in the 30th minute. Junior Lawrence Aydlett found himself with the ball inside Bucknell's penalty area. He then played the ball towards Lombard who had a pocket of space on the penalty spot. Lombard turned and fired a left-footed shot, but his effort soared over the crossbar.

Neither team had any more clear-cut opportunities in the first half, so the score remained 0-0.

As the second half wore on, Bucknell began to gain more and more possession. Both teams were very solid at the back, which limited one another's chances on goal. Both teams began to serve crosses into the box, but neither team could capitalize.

When the final whistle blew, the match finished in a 0-0 draw.

The Leopards tallied four total shots and the Bison had three. Junior goalkeeper Griffin Huff had a quiet day in goal, only having to make one save. Rex Alphen and Freddie Lapworth split time for the Bison and Alphen made two saves on the day.

The Maroon and White are back in action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday as the travels to Navy for their final match of the regular season.
