EASTON, Pa. – Fresh off its sixth straight win of the season and eighth in a row against FCS opponents, Lafayette football continued to move up in both of the FCS Top 25 polls and made program history in the process.
Â
The Maroon and White jumped three spots to 16
th in the
AFCA FCS Coaches Poll while advancing one place to 20
th in the
Stats Perform Poll. Both ballots were released Monday morning after the 35-25 win at Patriot League foe Georgetown on Saturday. The Leopards' No. 16 ranking is the highest any Lafayette team has reached in the Patriot League era, surpassing the 2004 squad which finished its season at No. 19 in both polls.
Â
The Leopards initially broke into the 2023 polls on Oct. 23 following their 35-25 win over then No. 11/15 Holy Cross on Oct. 21, which snapped Holy Cross' 18-game conference winning streak. Lafayette is currently one of just seven teams in the nation without a loss to an FCS team.
Â
With second-year head coach
John Troxell '94 manning the headsets on the Fisher Stadium sideline, Lafayette already has surpassed the program win total from each of the last 13 seasons, guaranteeing the program its first winning season since 2009. The Leopards finished their non-league slate with a 4-1 mark, have improved to 3-0 in conference play for the first time since 2017 and ran through the month of October undefeated. Â
Â
Lafayette returns to College Hill on Saturday to host Colgate at 12:30 p.m. At that game, the 2013 Patriot League title team will be recognized as part of the Tavani Years reunion happening over the weekend.
