O’Hanlon To Be Inducted Into the Big 5 Hall of Fame

Winningest coach in Lafayette and Patriot League history lauded for his own athletic career

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- Lafayette's Fran O'Hanlon, who spent 27 years as the head coach of the men's basketball program, will be inducted to the Philadelphia Big 5 Hall of Fame during the MHS Lift Big 5 Classic on Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Wells Fargo Center.

During his career as a point guard at Villanova, O'Hanlon served as a co-captain under head coach Jack Kraft. He played three varsity seasons, each of which reached the postseason, totaling a 62-21 team record (.745). O'Hanlon was a certified play-maker, creating feeds that often led to baskets by Howard Porter, a three-time All-America selection. He averaged 13.1 points per game that year with a season-high 22 points against Niagara, which was led by three-time All-American Calvin Murphy. The Philadelphia, Pa. native finished his career with the Blue and White averaging 8.4 points per game over 82 contests.

As head coach of the Leopards, he coached from 1995 to 2022, winning three Patriot League regular-season titles and guided the Leopards to the three NCAA Tournaments. He was also named the Patriot League Men's basketball Coach of the Year on four occasions.
