ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Lafayette Swimming and diving faced American, Bucknell and Navy in a quad meet on Saturday at Navy's Lejeune Hall.
For the women individually, sophomore Isabella Van Ess snagged a first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke for the second meet in a row with a final time of 2:22.42. Freshmen Daisy Decker and Natalie Johnson placed fourth and fifth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:18.97) and 100-yard fly (59.27), respectively. Sophomore Emma Luttrell swam a 4:44.35 in the 400-yard IM for a fifth-place finish while freshman Diedre Scudder took home fourth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:13.05).
On the men's side, juniors Peter Kawash and Andrew Campbell finished second in the 200-yard backstroke (1:55.60) and 400-yard IM (4:10.83), respectively. Fellow junior Avery Letourneau placed third in the 100-yard fly, swimming a 51.25. Freshman Charlie Barker ended in fifth in the 100-yard fly (53.27) and senior James Lapsley finished with fifth- and fourth-place finishes in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke (53.14, 1:58.72).
In the diving competition, freshman Landon Orth placed sixth in the 1-meter dive, breaking the school record with a score of 293.85. He also pulled off a sixth-place finish in the 3-meter as well with a 278.20 finish.
For the women, junior Shaylee Daniels led the way with 11th- and 12th-place finishes (220.40, 226.35).
In relays, both the women and men reeled in second-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle. Freshmen Sarah Newman, Natalie Johnson and Caroline Schenck and junior Maggie Ivie worked together for a 1:38.10 finish for the women, and juniors Timothy Jimenez and Peter Kawash, sophomore Tommy Weber and freshman Alexander Reihl swam to a time of 1:24.98 for the men.
Both the men (170-122) and women beat American (151-144). The Leopards fell to Bucknell (217-81 men, 226-74 women) and Navy (159-120 men, 159-124 women).
The Maroon and White next compete at Lehigh on Nov. 17 at 6 p.m.
