EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette baseball team fell to Southeastern Louisiana in the first ever meeting between the two squads on Friday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field by a 15-4 final.

The Leopards were led by a trio of seniors,
Pete Ciuffreda,
Seif Ingram and
Kyle Chmielewski, who each had a hit and an RBI. Sophomore
Ben Petrone tallied three hits and scored two runs.

Freshman
Luke Craytor made his first collegiate start on the mound, throwing 1.2 innings and striking out one.

Southeastern Louisiana got on the board first after a double down the line scored the runner from second. The Lions scored two more runs in the inning, on a walk and a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded, making the score 3-0 at the end of the second.

The Lions tacked on three more runs in the third and three runs in the fourth, plus another run in the sixth, extending their lead to 10-0.
Lafayette responded with a run of its own in the top of the seventh. Petrone singled with one out and then sophomore
Michael Zarrillo added a single of his own. Chmieleweski hit an RBI bloop double over the second baseman's head and into center field, allowing Petrone to score and making the tally 10-1.
The Leopards added on two more runs in the top of the eighth. Sophomore
Easton Brenner led off the inning with a single. Later in the inning, Petrone also singled, putting runners on first and second, with two outs. Ciuffreda and Ingram followed with back-to-back RBI singles, making the score 10-3.
The Lions added five runs in the bottom of the eighth, pushing their lead out to 15-3.
In the top of the ninth, Lafayette scored again. Junior
Michael Mallas singled and later came around to score on an RBI ground out by junior
Blaze Fadio, bringing the final to 15-4.

The Leopards and the Lions are slated to continue their series tomorrow, with a doubleheader that is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. CT
