Columbia Outlasts Women's Lacrosse at Home

Rogers tallies four goals for the second game in a row

EASTON, Pa.- Sophomore Sara Rogers paced Lafayette women's lacrosse with four goals for the second game in a row during a 15-12 loss versus Columbia on Saturday afternoon in the Leopards' home opener.

Lafayette jumped to an early 2-1 advantage by 10:37 in the first period with goals from Katie Chiasson and Rogers. Columbia fired back with three scores as Lafayette's Chiasson bookended the period at 0:59.

The second period concluded with a 7-7 total at the halftime buzzer; Kerry Tuorto (7:45), Rogers (6:50), Sarah Bennett (6:16) and Olivia Kelley (4:05) got on the board for the Maroon and White in that time.

Lafayette came out swinging in the third quarter, putting up two goals before alternating scores with Columbia for the remainder of the period. Abby Romano found the net at 11:50 before Bennett (8:48) and Rogers (2:58, 1:05) tallied their second and fourth goals of the game, respectively.

The Lions retaliated with a 4-0 run to open the final quarter, taking a slim 13-11 lead with just under six minutes remaining to play. Charlotte Edwards recorded the first goal of her rookie campaign at 3:58 prior to two more Lion goals, which secured a 15-12 victory for the visitors.

The Lions held the advantage in draw controls (18-13) and shots (38-26), while both teams were even with 14 clears (14-14 to 14-15) and 21 ground balls. The Lions converted three free-position shots, while the Leopards totaled two.

Lafayette's junior goalkeeper Lexi Coldiron made 12 saves on 38 shots faced. Her Columbia counterpart, Ella Sangree, made six saves on 26 shots faced.

The Leopards host Wagner on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
