CAMDEN, N.J. - Lafayette baseball dropped a hard-fought mid-week contest in extra innings to Rider on Wednesday at the Camden Athletic Complex by a 4-3 final.
Rider got on the board first in the bottom of the second. Freshman Anthony Paskell lined an RBI-double to left center field and junior Jordan Erbe followed with an RBI-single, giving the Broncs a 2-0 lead.
Lafayette struck back in the top of the third. Senior
Patrick Vandenbergh walked to lead off the inning and junior
Blaze Fadio followed two batters later drawing another walk. Sophomore
Easton Brenner reached base on a hit-by-pitch which loaded the bases for senior
Pete Ciuffreda. While Ciuffreda was batting, a balk by the Rider pitcher allowed Vandenbergh to score from third and cut the Rider lead to 2-1.
The Broncs added a run in the bottom of the third on an RBI-ground out by Jack Winsett, extending their lead to 3-1.
The Leopards again responded in the fourth as sophomore
Kaleb Willis doubled to right center field to lead off the inning and then came around to score on an RBI single by senior
Justin Weiss, making the score 3-2.
In the sixth, senior
Seif Ingram singled to lead off the inning. Later in the inning with one out, junior
Justin Grech ripped an RBI-double into right center field, scoring Ingram from second and tying the game 3-3.
Neither team scored a run in the ensuing three innings, but in extra innings in the bottom of the tenth, Rider loaded the bases with one out and senior Brendan O'Donnell drew an RBI walk which ended the game with a final score of 4-3.
Graduate student Danny Kirwin pitched 1.2 innings and  picked up the win for the Broncs and freshman
Trace Florio threw 0.1 innings and took the loss for the Leopards.
Lafayette is back in action on Friday as the Leopards are set to travel to High Point, N.C. to take on High Point University in a four-game series that starts at 4 p.m.
