VILLANOVA, Pa.- Katie Chiasson scored the lone goal in the Lafayette women's lacrosse defeat at Villanova, 15-1, on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference matchup.
The Wildcats opened the contest with a 4-0 run, powered by two goals from Caroline Curnal, by the 11-minute mark in the first quarter. Villanova added four more tallies to hold an early 8-0 advantage going into the second period.
Curnal struck again in the second quarter at 11:03, continuing the Wildcat scoring streak that would extend by two at the halftime buzzer. The Leopards struggled to get offensive looks at the cage due to Villanova's defenses only allowing two shots on cage in the first half.
Villanova earned a 13-0 streak until Chiasson put the Maroon and White on the board at 7:05 in the fourth quarter. The Pelham, N.H. native was assisted by
Meghan McLachlan.
The lone tally was not enough, as Lafayette fell by a 15-1 final inside Villanova Stadium. The Wildcats were paced by two players with four goals apiece, Sami Carey and Isabella Francati.
Villanova held the advantage in draw controls (15-3), ground balls (19-15) and shots (33-12).
Lafayette's junior goalkeeper
Lexie Coldiron made six saves.
Molly Terraciano also saw the field this afternoon. Their Wildcat counterparts, Cate Gallagher and Kate Montalto, recorded two and four saves, respectively.
The Leopards will return to conference play on Saturday at American with the first draw taking place at 1 p.m.
