VESTAL, N.Y. – Binghamton scored three runs in the eighth inning to claim a 4-1 final over Lafayette baseball on Friday afternoon at Bearcats Baseball Complex.
In the bottom of the third, Binghamton broke the scoreless tie. The Bearcats loaded the bases and sophomore Nick Roselli drew a two-out walk which scored junior Tommy Reifler from third and gave the Bearcats a 1-0 lead.
With two outs in the fifth, senior
Seif Ingram singled to left field. Senior
Pete Ciuffreda blasted a double off the wall in center field, allowing Ingram to score from first and tying the game 1-1.
The Bearcats took the lead back in the bottom of the eighth, scoring three runs on a Lafayette error, a sacrifice fly by junior Isaiah Corry and an RBI-single by senior Cavan Tully, to take a 4-1 lead.
Lafayette got a runner into scoring position in the top of the ninth, but could not plate another run, making the final score 4-1.
Senior
Alex Walsh started the game on the mound for the Leopards and pitched 4.2 innings, struck out five and surrendered a run. Senior Thomas Babalis started the game for the Bearcats and pitched 6.0 innings while striking out seven and giving up a run. John Lumpinski earned the win for the Bearcats and senior Jack Collins collected the save. James Reese took the loss for the Leopards.
Lafayette closes out its three-game series with Binghamton on Saturday with a doubleheader that starts at noon.
