EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette women's basketball team wrapped up the 2022-23 season with a 61-52 loss to Loyola in the Patriot League Tournament first round on Saturday.
           Junior guard
Makayla Andrews led the Leopards with 14 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore
Abby Antognoli and freshman
Kay Donahue joined Andrews in double figures with 13 and 11, respectively.Â
           The Greyhounds' Lex Therien and Devyne Newman tallied 17 points apiece. Therien, a Second Team All-Patriot League honoree, also added 21 rebounds, earning her 18th double-double of the season.
           Loyola started off hot with a 13-2 run, leading up to 4:44 in the first, ultimately leading 17-12 heading into the second.
           Lafayette pushed on a 13-5 run to open the second, taking its first lead of the game at 25-22 with 3:02 remaining in the half. Donahue and Andrews each netted eight points in the half, as the Leopards led 27-26 at intermission.
           The Greyhounds headed out of the locker room with heads of steam, starting off the third quarter with an 11-2 run, taking a 37-29 lead with 5:04 left in the quarter. Loyola outshot the Leopards 63 percent to 27 percent in the quarter, but Antognoli kept the Leopards alive by contributing four points after the run. Therien put up seven points in the third, as Loyola led 44-37 heading into the fourth.
           Donahue opened the scoring in the fourth with a three, pulling the Leopards within four down 44-40 with 9:27 remaining in the contest. With just over eight minutes left, Antognoli picked up a steal and scored a layup to put the Leopards within two.

Kylie Favours traded threes, before Newman hit a jumper to put Loyola up 49-45 with 7:08 on the clock.Â
           Neither team scored a basket up until 3:15 when Andrews netted a turn-around jumper, to inch the Leopards closer at 49-47.
           Therien went 2-for-2 from the charity stripe and Kelly Ratigan drained a jumper to give Loyola a 53-47 lead with 2:15 remaining.Â
           The Leopards could not gain offensive momentum before being forced to foul in the final minute, as Loyola held on to knock off the Leopards 61-52 and advance to the Patriot League Tournament quarterfinal.
            The Leopards finished 10-19 overall and 7-11 in the Patriot League.
