BURLINGTON, Vt.– The Lafayette field hockey team took the Vermont Catamounts to overtime on Friday afternoon, falling by a 3-2 final.
Vermont converted on an early corner opportunity in the first period to take a 1-0 lead.

Josephine van Wijk followed up with her own equalizer just six minutes into the contest, also during a corner attempt. The Hague, Netherlands native was assisted by co-captains

Neither team found the net in the opening half, despite favorable shots on goal.
The Catamounts' Lilly Leiprecht broke the tie at 39:29 in the third period, allowing a 2-1 advantage for Vermont.
As the situation looked dire for the Leopards, Van Wijk sent a rocket into the cage with 36 seconds remaining in the game to force the first overtime period of the season.
Vermont ultimately cut down the field quickly and ended up with the golden goal at 60:43.
The Catamounts held the advantage in total shots (13-11) and penalty corners (8-7).
Lafayette's sophomore goalkeeper
Raffi Fragomeni made four saves, while her Catamount counterpart, Lauren Halenkamp, made three.
The Leopards continue on the road, heading to UMass on Sunday at noon.
