BETHLEHEM, Pa.- The Lafayette men's soccer team defeated archrival Lehigh 1-0 through in Bethlehem on Saturday evening in a rainy battle.
After a chippy start from both sides, junior
Lawrence Aydlett broke the deadlock in the 14
th minute. Senior captain
Hale Lombard received the ball in the right channel before he crossed
a service into Lehigh's penalty area. Aydlett made a run to the near post and managed a one-time finish to give Lafayette the lead. This was Aydlett's second goal of the season and he was assisted by Lombard.
Junior goalkeeper
Griffin Huff was given the nod in goal for Lafayette and he didn't see too much action through the first 45 minutes of play. The first half ended 1-0 in favor of the Maroon and White.
Lafayette kept its offense rolling in the second half, accumulating nine shots to Lehigh's five. Huff made two important saves to keep the Mountain Hawks off the board and to see out the victory for the Leopards.
Lafayette is back in action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday to host Army at Gummeson Grounds: Home of Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.
