EASTON, Pa.- The Lafayette College volleyball team returned to Kirby Sports Center Wednesday night and showcased a dominant performance, managing to sweep St. Peter's (25-18, 25-16, 25-19) to open its home campaign.
Junior
Abby Nieporte hit .269 with nine kills
, taking her to 38 kills on the season. Freshman
Ally Feczko added seven kills and six digs
, hitting .455, while sophomore
Hannah Ehrich-Pollock had six kills and two block assists.
The Leopards went back-and-forth with the Peacocks for the first 12 points of the first set. Then Lafayette went on a 5-0 run to put the score at 11-6. Ehrich-Pollock eventually ended the set with a kill off an assist from freshman
Anna Van Wyk. Van Wyk finished the match with 23 assists.
Set two was very similar to set one, providing a lot of back-and-forth action. The score was all square at 8-8 before the Leopards began to pull away. Lafayette went on a 7-0 run which saw back-to-back blocks to take the score to 15-8. Nieporte finished the set off with a kill assisted by junior
Anna Penman.
The third set followed suit with two lead changes and seven tie scores. However, when the score was even at 17 apiece, Lafayette went on a 5-0 run to begin to run away with the match. Sophomore
Carol Ulichney wrapped up the evening for the Leopards with a kill assisted by senior
Alyssa Vitale.
Junior
Carson Grace Toomer served as the primary setter for the evening contributing 14 digs for the Leopards.
Lafayette is back in action at 3:30 p.m. on Friday as the Leopards travel to the Penn Tournament to take on Duquesne.
