Leopards Drop Road Contest at Penn 1-0

Lafayette hosts Princeton on Sunday at 2 p.m.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Lafayette women's soccer team traveled to Philadelphia, Pa. on Thursday to take on Penn. The Quakers used a goal late in the first half to defeat the Leopards 1-0 at Penn Park.

Defense was king in the first half of the match, as both teams combined for just five shots in the first 40 minutes, with only two on goal. In the 41st minute, Penn's Mallory Lucas found the back of the net on a shot from the doorstep of the goal, at point-blank range, to give the Quakers a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Penn continued to win the possession battle in the second half, holding Lafayette to just one shot in the second 45 minutes, in a 1-0 final.

Lafayette ended the evening with four shots, three of which were on goal. Penn had 17 shots, with three on goal. The Leopards were awarded one corner, while the Quakers had seven. Senior Rory Schauder, junior Alexa Jindal, junior Abby Miles and freshman Nadia Zaffanella all recorded a shot for the Maroon and White. The shots by Miles, Jindal and Zaffanella were on goal.

Senior Lindsay Dewar started the match for Lafayette and played the full 90 minutes, recording two saves. Her Penn counterpart, Laurence Gladu, also played 90 minutes and managed three saves. 

The Leopards return to Easton on Sunday to host the Tigers of Princeton at Gummeson Grounds: Home of Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium at 2 p.m.
