Leopards Defeated by Boston U., 51-39

Antognoli, Andrews and Drummond all finish in double figures

BOSTON, Mass. - Guards Abby Antognoli (11 points) Makayla Andrews (10 points) and forward Kayla Drummond (10 points) led the Leopards' offense on Saturday afternoon, combining for 31 points in the team's 51-39 loss in Case Gymnasium.

Caitlin Weimar was the standout performer for the Terriers. The senior forward tallied 26 points, 12 rebounds, seven blocks and four steals.

The Maroon and White grabbed an early 5-0 lead after Antognoli knocked down back-to-back buckets. The Terriers responded with a 10-5 spurt thanks to field goals from Weimar, Alex Giannaros and Kelsi Mingo. After 10 minutes of action, the score was all square at 10 points apiece.

The score was tied at 14-14 with 7:43 remaining in the first half prior to Boston U. taking control with an 8-0 run. Both teams went scoreless for four minutes, but sophomore guard Sauda Ntaconayigize (three points) got the Leopards going again with a triple assisted by Antognoli. Weimar hit two late free throws to give the Terriers a 24-17 lead at halftime.

Nothing could separate the two teams in the early minutes of the second half. Boston U. grabbed a 10-point lead with 5:34 left in the third period thanks to a three-pointer by Audrey Ericksen. Antognoli fired back with a triple of her own, cutting the Leopards' deficit to eight points. Weimar handed the Terriers their largest lead of the game (12 points) with a mid-range jumper with 42 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Boston U. led 39-29 with 10 minutes left in the contest.

Lafayette traded buckets with Boston U. in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter. The Terriers then outscored the Leopards 12-10 in the final period, while shooting 44.4 percent compared to Lafayette's 26.3 percent.

Defense may have determined the outcome as both teams committed nine turnovers, but the Terriers came up with five more steals (8-3) and six more blocks (7-1) than the Leopards, with Weimar accounting for all seven of her team's rejections.

The Leopards are back on the road on at 6 p.m. on Wednesday for a matchup against American in Washington, D.C.
