Goals by Aydlett and Maglione Propel Leopards to a 2-0 Win

Huff earns his second shutout of the season

EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette men's soccer used goals by senior Lawrence Aydlett and freshman Cade Maglione to defeat Holy Cross, 2-0, and earn its second Patriot League win of the season on Saturday at Gummeson Grounds: Home of Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.

The Leopards struck first in the 25th minute when Aydlett was fouled in the box by a Crusader defender and was awarded a penalty shot. Aydlett took the penalty kick, blasting a shot past Holy Cross goalkeeper Tristan Stephani to give the Maroon and White a 1-0 lead. The goal was Aydlett's second of the season.

In the 75th minute, Maglione extended the Lafayette advantage. The Allentown, N.J. native wove through multiple Holy Cross defenders and then ripped a strike into the right corner of the goal to bring Lafayette's tally to 2-0. The goal was Maglione's second of the year.

The Maroon and White played stellar defense for the remaining 15 minutes of the match to lock up the 2-0 Patriot League win.

Lafayette ended the match with six shots, five of which were on goal, while Holy Cross took seven shots (three on goal). The Leopards had one corner and the Crusaders had eight. Lafayette's was led  by Aydlett and Maglione, who both took two shots.

Senior Griffin Huff played the full 90 minutes in goal for the Maroon and White and recorded two saves, earning his second shutout of the season.  His Holy Cross counterpart, Stephani, also played 90 minutes and was credited with three saves.

The Leopards are next in action when they travel to Le Moyne on Tuesday for a match at 3 p.m.
