EASTON, Pa. – Sophomore goalkeeper
Catherine Apker tied Lafayette's single-season shutout record in the Leopards' 0-0 tie against Navy at Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium on Wednesday.
Lafayette proved to be the aggressor on offense in the first half. The Leopards took seven shots in the first 45 minutes of play. The best chance of scoring for the Maroon and White came off the foot of sophomore
Heather Plowright, who ripped a shot on goal that was initially dropped by Navy goalkeeper Natasha Stramrood. But, then Stramrood quickly fell on the ball, ending the Lafayette opportunity.
Navy was credited with two shots in the first half, and the teams headed to the break in a 0-0 deadlock.
In the second half, Lafayette continued to dictate the pace of play. Junior
April McDonald led the Leopards in the second 45 minutes, taking three shots, all of which were on goal. The best opportunity for McDonald came in the 83
rd minute, when she sent a header on-cage, but an athletic save by Stramrood snuffed out the Lafayette chance.
Neither team scored in the second half, and the match ended in a 0-0 draw.
Lafayette recorded 13 shots on the evening, with five on goal. Navy was credited with six shots, of which three were on goal. The Leopards had seven cornerkicks, while the Mids had five. The Maroon and White were led by McDonald, with three shots.
In goal for the Leopards, Apker played the full 90 minutes, recording three saves and earning her eighth shutout of the season. With this shutout, Apker ties Lauren Smedley for the Lafayette single-season record.
The Maroon and White conclude their 2024 campaign with a 5-6-4 overall record and a 2-3-4 record in the Patriot League.
