UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Leopards competed in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships on Friday afternoon at Penn State. Senior Emil Arangala led the way for the fifth consecutive meet and classmate Casey MacElhiney paced the women.
Arangala took home 86th place out of nearly 200 runners with a final time of 31:52.4. Next up were juniors Justin Brown in 106th (32:08.1) and Cole Chukoskie in 137th (32:46.9). Rounding out the top five were freshman David Whitford (178th, 34:35.0) and junior Francis Dougherty (181st, 34:37.4).
For the women, MacElhiney secured 119th with a final time of 22:19.0 followed by junior Elizabeth Borah in 131st (22:34.3). Junior Kira Marr (147th, 22:52.9), sophomore Ava Severino (167th, 23:18.5) and freshman Anya Kazemi (172nd, 23:26.3) completed the top five.
The men earned 23rd place of 27 teams while the women finished 25th of 30 teams.
Villanova captured team honors for the men with their own Liam Murphy reeling in the individual victory. On the women's side, Ceili McCabe from West Virginia snagged the individual honors, helping the Mountaineers earn the team victory.
