MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Lafayette continued its non-conference slate at No. 13 West Virginia on Friday night, resulting in the hosts moving to 6-0 on the season with a 98-28 victory. The Maroon and White were cold from the floor, shooting 27 percent from the field and 12 percent from beyond the arc. Sophomore guard
Teresa Kiewiet got the Leopards going with a mid-range jumper at 8:21 in the first quarter, but the Mountaineers then began to increase their lead. Ja'Naiya Quinerly led West Virginia with six points after 10 minutes, taking a 22-8 lead.
West Virginia outscored the Leopards 23-7 in the second period. Sydney Woodley notched a team-high seven points on 2-3 shooting from the field. The hosts snatched seven steals and won the turnover battle after 20 minutes (16-7). At the half, the Mountaineers led 45-15.
Second-half action was much of the same, as West Virginia outscored the Leopards' 53-13. WVU shot a scorching 67 percent from the field and 73 percent from downtown, collecting its sixth win of the season. Quinerly led all scorers with 19 points. Senior guard
Abby Antognoli led the Leopards with 11 points.
The keys to Friday's matchup were hitting the boards and turnovers. The Mountaineers grabbed 19 more rebounds (39-20) than Lafayette and had half as many turnovers (30-15).
