EASTON, Pa. - Freshman guard
Alex Chaikin's career-high 21 points on a five-of-nine performance from beyond the arc propelled Lafayette men's hoops over Rosemont, 91-45, on Sunday afternoon in Kirby Sports Center.
The Maroon and White shot a season-high 50.7 percent from the field and totaled a season-high 12 3-pointers.Â
Andrew Phillips and
TJ Berger rounded out the Leopards in double figures with 10 points apiece as the program held the Ravens to a season-low 45 points.
Sophomore
Misha Bednostin had eight points in the opening 10 minutes to put the hosts ahead by 16, 26-10 in the first half.
Rosemont would not make a basket thereafter until 4:18 as Lafayette forged ahead to a 35-11 lead, the largest of the half, using two shots from beyond the arc by Chaikin.
The Leopards went into the locker room for the halftime break with a 38-22 advantage, guided by Bednostin's eight points and five rebounds.
In the second half, the Maroon and White put up a 35-9 run that concluded with three back-to-back buckets from long distance to continue on to 73-31 lead at the seven-minute mark.
Freshman
Folabomi Fayemi also posted a career-high seven points in his 10 minutes of play to help Lafayette continue the offensive barrage and close out the contest, 91-45.
The Ravens shot 38.5 percent from the field and were held to 2-of-14 from 3-point range. Bruce Black led Rosemont as the only player in double figures with 11 points and one block, steal and assist.
Lafayette dominated underneath the basket, securing a 42-23 (21-5 offensive) margin on the glass.
Next up, the Leopards host the inaugural Lafayette Classic from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1. Lafayette's first opponent of the four-team round-robin tournament is Long Island on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
